Say NO to Municipal Incineration -- Tell City Hall by July 14!
Metro Van is deciding - JULY 14 -- Incinerators or Zero Waste?
Synopsis of issue. Metro Van (and corporate interests) have looking into solving our over-abundance of waste problems with large incinerators. Their argument is to generate energy from burning garbage. The City of Vancouver (CoV) has been fighting the proposal and with good reason.
Make your voice heard to Metro Van - before July 14.
An independent site, Vancouver Observer, has a poll where you can express your NO vote. http://www.vancouverobserver.com/poll/should-vancouver-move-...
Also email your decision makers. Say NO to incineration. Write Mayor and Council at mayorandcouncil@vancouver.ca
Reasons to lobby against incineration are $$$ cost and energy to build large incinerators and the need to make enough garbage to sustain them. Proponents of zero waste argue we should instead reduce and recycle. The two strategies are diametrically opposed and it is critical we stop the idea of large incinerators as part of our solid waste plan. Rather than leaving producers to make more and more packaging to support the new money-making business of burning garbage, let's continue to support CoV's push towards zero waste.
