Becoming: Journeying Toward Authenticity -- What readers are saying
I am loving your book! Honestly. I lay down to rest yesterday and picked it up to begin to browse and couldn't stop reading for 40 - 50 pages. I love the way you start it, with two interpretations of your childhood. A perfect context for what is to follow. I love the short chapters, each with a big message. I am reflecting lots. It feels familiar and personal and important. You have done an absolutely wonderful thing.
Your book has arrived and it is wonderful. I am so impressed by everything about it, even though I have only read two or three chapters. I think it will be a valuable resource for many people on the journey and give reluctant travelers the courage to take their first steps. I love your frankness and openness and how clearly you describe your journey through an issue to a new reality. It seems to me it will inspire hope and confidence that with a desire and a willingness to do the Work transformation entails, one can move from deep limitation towards freedom and authenticity. Congratulations, Jill! A labor of love beautifully executed!!
It is a big step to open oneself up to others in one's writing. Like turning oneself inside out. It takes a lot of courage. When you read your chapter I realized how my perception of life is exactly like yours was: life is a struggle. It was the same "aha" moment for me. I will try to dance with life and let life dance me! Thank you for that. I am looking forward to more new insights with each chapter.
Jill, what a wonderful, heart-filled book launch, and what a lovely book. I came home last night intending to go to an old friend's 60th birthday party and ended up sinking into your book instead. I'm reading it slowly, but am already a third of the way through and shall be savouring it over the next days and weeks. Just wanted to let you know how much I'm enjoying it. The candour and humour are truly engaging, the rhythm lively, and the stories make me want more! Congratulations again!
it was a pleasure to read about your life and adventures and the way that you see life and are living it. It is well written, poignant, and has that down to earthiness feel to it. What I also loved are all the quotes that you used. They are exquisite.
Your book and your life are amazing! I was thoroughly engrossed... The book lists are comprehensive and I have read many of them in the past.
I have just finished reading your book and want to tell you how much I enjoyed it. It is a delightful combination of reminiscence, inspiration and truth telling, that really spoke to me. I found myself laughing in recognition when you described your childhood and dealing with other people's expectations. Your description of the emotions within a family from love and including hate were very insightful and honest, and I appreciate your consistent affirmation of love that keeps us all feeling that life is worthwhile. I also feel comfortable about your recognition of the spiritual dimension of life without getting involved in the terminology of theology...
I like the reflections at the end of each chapter where you ask the reader questions. Some of these were useful in getting me actively thinking about my life.
