ForestEthics are looking for an experienced organizer who would act as the "Climate Outreach Coordinator" for Vancouver, working on the 2 key federal ridings listed below. Do you know anyone who would be a great organizer for this contract position (we are currently pulling the final details and job description together).

Interested applicants should email Gillian@forestethics.org, and for more info see www.yourvotetheirfuture.ca

This December we will witness the most important international conference of our time. In Copenhagen, world leaders will determine whether or not nations can come together on a global consensus on climate change, or risk further climatic catastrophes for future generations. The meeting represents our best and likely last chance to reverse the most dangerous impacts of climate change and unleash the green economy. If Copenhagen talks fail, then it’s time to start grappling with a truly unprecedented public-health and global-security crisis.

Our work is non-partisan. All political parties in Canada need to hear the voices of concerned citizens.

Forest Ethics and other environmental organizations are working to educate voters in key swing ridings across Canada, to urge politicians to act to address global warming in the lead up to the Copenhagen climate negotiations, and we need your help in 2 key BC ridings: North Vancouver and Vancouver-Kingsway.

Please forward to any individuals you know who may be suited to this work, as we need leads ASAP in preparation for the possible upcoming election.

ForestEthics, a North American wide non-profit environmental organization, on Wed. Sept. 9th, launched in Kitchener Yourvotetheirfuture.ca, a non-partisan initiative to encourage Canada to catch up to other countries in the creation of the green energy economy of the future. A similar climate outreach initiative was launched Sept. 8th in London, Ontario by another environmental group and about a dozen regions across Canada will be added to the campaign.

Many thanks for passing this on,

I think it is great that we

Written by Troy D. Hunter (not verified)

I think it is great that we as humanity all work together to find solutions so that we can live in peace and harmony on earth. I had the opportunity to participate in recent climate change discussions with the Indigenous peoples of the world in Bangkok, Thailand.

The message the Indigenous peoples want to share with the world is that shifting agriculture, which uses the so-called, "slash and burn method" is the best way that some peoples are able to survive without overusing the soil nutrients in one single area; without having to resort to chemicals, pesticides or other modern means involving non-organic processes. It was also stated that the shifting agriculture process allows for new young forests to grow, which are the best carbon syncs and that forests that have become too old such as old growth forests no longer are able to sequester the carbon and therefore are carbon emitters.

It was stated that C02 sequestration plants lock up the biomass into the wood as the forest ages ... growing forests lock up the carbon, as they mature they are a carbon source through respiration. Indigenous people ensure forests are at a young age.

The point is clear that there are no effective solutions to climate change without indigenous peoples rights, livelihood and food security for the people. This is the message that must be given due consideration in Copenhagen. Let us not make laws without the free informed prior consent of the Indigenous peoples.
