the truth about reading - written by someone with a learning disability

have you ever had difficulties reading, writing, or doing math? do you sometimes find it very challenging to organize your thoughts? have you ever had a hard time telling time, or telling left from right?

if so, maybe you're one of the 20% of north americans who are alternative learners.

they used to be called people with learning disabilities, or slow learners, or dyslexics.

tina mcinerney just calls them "alternative learners." for many years, much of reading and writing just eluded her.

and then one day, she got it. one day it clicked for her. a lot of it had to do with feeling confident that she COULD learn it.

now, tina is working on a beautiful book. it's called "the truth about reading." i want to help her write this book. if you'd be interested in that, too, go to her project at give meaning.

I like the book idea. I tutor many alternative learners (both adults and youth) and find that often a more creative approach helps make things make sense for alternative learners.
