You cannot delegate responsibility for personal honour and integrity

Honour and integrity are matters of personal responsibilityfor me.

I am neither able nor comfortable delegating to others theresponsibility and administration of my honour and integrity.

When an injustice is committed by those acting in my name(in this specific case council for me as a citizen of Abbotsford) my honour andintegrity requires, no demands, I speak up to insist councillors act in anethical, just and honest manner.

Delegation does not absolve citizens of their personalresponsibilities for the actions taken by government in their name be itmunicipal, provincial or federal.

History and the world around us are full of examples of whathappens when citizens abandon or delegate their honour and integrity to others.

I do accept and take to heart the corollary implied in Mr.Zilinsky’s letter.

Therefore I commit to stepping up and acting to bring aboutthe changes needed to ensure that Abbotsford City Council behaves with honour, integrity, fiscal and common sense in an open and responsible manner.

I refer to the letter written by James Breckenridge in which he states thatwe, as a community, are honour bound to support the Sikh community in its questto obtain free city cemetery land on which to build their crematorium.

How many groups outside of the Sikh religious community would use thatfacility, which would no doubt be designed for a particular style, fortheir services? Not very many.

Where does Breckenridge get the authority to tell us that we must give themthe land that we paid for through our taxes?

I suggest that Mr. Breckenridge stick to the subject that he seems tobe most familiar with – the homeless people – and leave city business to thosedelegated to administer it.
