Another fence went up today
I see where they are using the old hospital to relieve theneed for parking at the new hospital.
Interesting. The old hospital is fine for providing shelterfor automobiles, but is not fine for providing shelter for the homeless.
Some may protest that this is not a fair comparison to bemaking. But what has fairness got to do with a discussion about uses for theold hospital? There is nothing fair about refusing the use of the hospital tobridge the current shortfall of affordable housing in Abbotsford, leaving thebuilding empty while the streets are full of homeless.
Now to the overpaid bureaucrats, who have recently becomeeven more outrageously overpaid, housing and the cost of housing may not be aconcern.
To the homeless and the poor teetering on homelessness, shelter from the elements and cold is a health concern.
A health concern, which makes it a matter for the FraserHealth Authority to address, does it not? The Fraser Health Authority thathappens to have a certain building they are in a rush to tear down.
Another fence went up today,
Keeping the homeless at bay.
Building that served community well,
Now sitting forlorn, an empty shell.
Unwelcome when a healing place,
Unwelcome still when empty space.
