more dancing in 2007

That's it: more dancing -- more dance classes, more dance partners, more nights out dancing -- for fun, friendly, social exercise.

Does this change the world? I know that dancing teaches me a lot about working with someone else to make something seem effortless and beautiful -- and fun! A great metaphor for most anything else I want to see happen in my life, my world.

I think dance does wonderful

Written by davidyates

I think dance does wonderful things for people's lives, including the deeper issues you just started to touch on. Have you ever noticed how people who partner dance will dance together no matter what their age, race, background, religion, etc? I've noticed this, at least, at swing dances, and I'm sure it happens in many other places as well. It's a great step toward building acceptance in the world. If only more people danced together!

Perhaps I could help you with one of your resolutions. My wife and I teach partner dancing, and usually our classes or lessons are for pay. However, I've been trying to offer free lessons to the community from now until Christmas, and so far I haven't had many takers. My first offer was posted on a forum section of Freecycle. Maybe here I'll find a few who will accept? Anyway, our info is here: Night and Day Dance. Let me know if you're interested!

And definitely keep up the dancing. I'd also love to hear how else you think it helps change us and the world around us.

Hi David -- I'd forgotten

Written by hanspetermeyer

Hi David -- I'd forgotten all about this changeeverything site until I chatted w/ someone who works at Vancity the other day.

Thank you for your offer -- it's now a couple of years old, but still appreciated. I don't live in Vancouver, but we've got a very lively dance scene here in the Comox Valley. And I agree: partner dancers will dance with anyone, as long as they can move! It means that I get to meet many, many more people than I ordinarily would.

Since I last wrote I've taken a million classes and workshops, but the biggest learning has come from getting acquainted w/ Argentine tango. I went to Buenos Aires for a month-long crash course in May 07, and have been dancing at least 1-2 times a week since (as well as 1-2 nights of other kinds of dance). Keeps me young. Keeps me open & learning.

Dancing is changing my world (and it has helped me get through a tough 2 year stretch post-divorce, in a very graceful way).
