The Year of Running
This certainly seems to be the year of running. Clearly, when you are training to run a marathon, you need to get a lot of running in, but now I've also signed up to run on a relay team in the Vancouver Marathon - in 3 weeks, yikes! I'm running the first leg, a 10K segment that will go past my house, so that's kind of exciting and I'm really looking forward to running with my new friends. The only problem is that I'm on vacation until 2 days before the race which means the only training I'll be doing is sitting in a pub in Halifax. That and maybe lifting lobster from my plate to my mouth. Neither of which is going to help the running, but anyways...it'll be OK.
And then my sister-in-law is trying to convince me to sign up for the Fort Langley Half Marathon in July and the Portland Marathon in October! She almost had me, by saying that the Portland Marathon is a great first marathon for runners, etc, but then she threw in that the Fort Langley Half Marathon would be "fun" because "it has a hill in it". So now I have to reconsider the sanity of this woman and evaluate whether running with her will actually be "fun" in the traditional sense, or fun in some kind of masochistic struggling sense. ;)
So lots of running this year. It's weird for me to be excited about athletic things, because even though I did sports as a kid, it was never really fun for me and now I'm kind of getting into it.
