Training Starts Today
I'm still not able to run, or put too much weight on my right leg, because of the possible stress fracture in my hip, but it also occurred to me that I don't necessarily have to be doing nothing either.
I was doing ok with the rest, trying to accept it and focus on recovering instead of the wasted training days, but this weekend I started to lose my patience. I was starting to get angry that it was taking so long, angry that this had to happen after all the work I've put into it and angry that things might actually not turn out the way I want them too.
Looking at my running schedule, I've actually only been off my feet for 2 weeks (feels like much longer), so that was a pleasant surprise, but there are also only 10 weeks left of training after this one - and who knows how much more "rest" I'm going to need?
So I've allowed myself to be frustrated and angry and depressed this weekend and today I'm moving forward. Even if I can't run, I can work on my core strength, I can swim (apparently the YWCA is open, so I will check that out), I can continue to consider myself "in-training" (meaning getting lots of sleep and eating well) and I can work on my mental preparedness. If my running training is not where it should be, then maybe one of these other things will help get me through the 42 K.

water running or swimming is
water running or swimming is a great option. also, keep your spirits up - i've trained for (and completed) a few marathons, and invariably you run into injuries that throw you off. don't dwell on the training you're missing - focus on getting healthy and doing whatever else you can exercise-wise. fyi, if you're looking for a chiropractor that may be a little more "local" to you, i recommend Sue Ironside - she's done triathlons, marathons, and ironman races, is located in Kits, and has been excellent in helping me manage my injuries.
Good luck!

awesome, thanks guys! I haven't been swimming yet because the pools are closed due to the city strike, but I think the YWCA is open and also I hadn't thought to go to Burnaby or somewhere outside of Vancouver, so I'm going to try that this week.
