Finding it Within Yourself
Tom at Runner's lounge posts today about finding motivation within yourself. In case it hasn't been obvious from the months of posts already accumulated, I need to cultivate this in a very bad way.
He says:
"Wanting running success isn’t enough. Is it more important to want to achieve a goal or to believe in achieving a goal? Would you rather have someone want something for you or have them believe in you? The answer is obvious."
It is obvious, but a habit of self-motivation is nonetheless difficult to develop. I find it a small challenge to get out for a run when I have so much else to do and so much going on, but then once I do, I feel so much better and like I could run for hours!
Until of course, I hit the 25 minute mark and somehow my head convinces my legs that they're tired and need a rest. My legs have their own issues, but I know once I can overcome the motivation thing - the ability to convince myself to do something other than running out of sheer boredom - I will have achieved an enviable success. It's close I think, but not quite there just yet.
