the first show

So, I did my first show; for Vancity employees. It was a perfect audience to work out the glitches and nerves. The good news is that overall it was pretty good. Obviously I have some work to do. I went over time, which is something I have to watch out for and we had a techno hiccup that threw me a bit. (It involved a slide featuring a photoshopped picture of me with Cameron Diaz. A practical joke from my "trusty" team. Enough said).

All in all, for a first run, it wasn’t bad. Many staff said they learned something. A few said they were inspired (inspired – wow!). A few called to correct my facts. It’s interesting, but even though I pretty much do public speaking for a living in my job as CEO, I don’t usually talk for this long a period of time. I must confess I got a little nervous.

But nerves are good though, right? Keeps you on your toes.

Let’s hope the nerves are working in my favour tonight when I do it all over again for Vancity members at the Ridge Theatre.

Hi Dave,

I've read about what you're doing and think it's fantastic! I happen to have a copy of the book, An Inconvenient Truth, sitting on my desk next to me at this very moment.

Keep up the good work,

Dave, break a leg tonight.

Dave, break a leg tonight. Wish I could be there but seating is, as you know, limited. I assume you'll be doing more presentations. How can I find out when and where?

Thanks

From the “New Maillardville Member” that had a brief chance to speak with you after the presentation;

Great job last night!

I'm glad that I went.

I think it’s great that the country’s largest credit union (financial institution) has taken on the issue of Global Warming.

This decision must have raised a few eyebrows in the boardroom when it was first discussed; however I (as do others I spoke with after the presentation) believe it was a courageous move on both your part and the part of Vancity.

Your actions demonstrate the leadership and forward thought needed to bring attention to this issue. Hopefully others in the financial world will continue to pay attention.

As mentioned in our discussion; I am impressed with the service that Tony Ciulla (I may not be able to pronounce it, but I can spell it), Joe Tomaino and the rest of the staff (I’ve had a chance to meet) at the Maillardville Branch have provided to date to both myself and the individual that referred me and after watching the presentation, I am certain I made the right choice to change (Do I get my loan now?).

Anyway, keep up the fight and I will make certain that the next time this presentation comes up; I will have the other participants in our organization attend.

Until then,

Best regards,
