Keeping Promises and Saving Rainforests

I've never been to the Great Bear Rainforest, but it's on my list. My favourite place in the world remains the stretch of land between Tofino and Ucluelet, and I imagine that this coastal region feels much the same way--wild and ageless.

British Columbians will remember a historic agreement two years ago, where sundry parties--the provincial government, logging companies, First Nations and environmentalists--reached an agreement on managing this vast region (it's about the size of Austria) and committed to its implementation by March 31, 2009.

While some progress has been made, BC must still initiate a regional plan to ensure conservation of these critical ecosystems.

With the March 2009 deadline approaching, I'm helping the folks at ForestEthics, Greenpeace and Sierra Club running a campaign to help secure the fate of the Great Bear Rainforest.

We're asking people to send a message to the BC government, urging them to keep their promise. You can help by signing this online petition, and spreading the word about the issue.
