a positive outlook never hurt anyone.
Every so often I meet a child or kid, whatever you want to call them and they confirm why I created my new years resolution once again. This one little guy I met was in a place I never in a million years dreamed I would be. In Childrens Hospital in the Nuclear medicine ward. You see, we've been having to go through a series of tests with my own daugther to test for cancer and this little guy we met was going through treatment, he had also just gone through a transplant.
Three and half years old and he had gone through more in his his short time on earth as I have in thirty some odd years. Beside the lack of hair you would never of known he was so sick, he had the biggest smile on his face, joked and laughed. He also played with my daughter. When it came time for her to get her radioactive injection she of course cried. We where in this room down the hall from the waiting room we had just being playing in when I heard the stamping of feet. I turned around to see this little guy running towards us, he got to the door and stopped. He looked at the nurse and me and yelled that he had come to save her.
I couldn't believe it. Here he was ,as sick as he is and he hand no doubt in his mind that he was going to rescue her. Not one second did he hesitate to be there. Had he been an adult I don't suspect I would be telling you this story. This little guy has made a big impact in my life, he does't know it and never will. He put so many things in perspective just in the short 20 minutes we became friends that day, it was amazing.
So why or how did he effect me and my new years resolution? Anything and everything we can do for kids, should be done, no matter how little the task or what it is, you never know how it will impact someone. He also showed me that not to be selfish and in my own mind I should be lucky to have the things I do. It also made me think, it doesn't matter how bad some times we think we have it, there are a lot of others out there that are less fortunate.
If we can we need to help. The next time you feel you've got it bad remember this story and you may reconsider. I do all the time now.
