change to the grind
It's been, what, 100 years since the work week changed? What would
it do to regional air quality and emissions if the commute was reduced
to four days per week? Could we meet our now-lost Kyoto targets, or
some of them? Would it allow families more time to connect and become
stronger? I love this idea but need help with momentum. We could even
do some work in some sectors but have it be "work from home Wednesday."
And here I am, working part time to maintain a work life balance (and
sanity with three kids under six!), but now my oldest has to go to
school five days per week. It's only 2.5 hours, but I haven't been
doing the five-day-per-week grind for over six years, and it doesn't
seem fair to drag him into it now.

ABSOLUTELY !!! A four day
ABSOLUTELY !!! A four day week DOES improve quality of life. Our shop has been doing it this way for over two years. We work four- ten hour days, and have a three day week-end every week!!!!! Really, once you drive in to work and get going, an extra two hours is nothing, especially when you keep remembering the three day w-e coming. And no I dont have a light weight job, I am a timber-framer, and work with very large, very heavy power tools and timbers. Heavy lifting, loud noises, and very accurate, thought intensive work. This work is very rewarding though which definitely helps, I couldnt imagine being in a job I hated, for ten hours, even with the 3-day'ers.
Anyway, we love it and it definitely cuts down on commuting days, increases my time with my family, and still keeps a full 40 hour paycheck coming.(which is NOT the ruling factor in my life) Life> work
thanks all, and yes, lets change things for the better !!!!

I agree. I have worked a
I agree. I have worked a condensed work week for years. I work an extra couple of hours a day and work less days a week. I get my work done, I have more free time, I don't have to commute daily, I am a happier work - it is all good.
Even working at home one or two days a week would help substantially.
just my two cents...

The Work Less Party is a
The Work Less Party is a local "political party" educating people about this issue. If we reduce our work week, more people would be employed, we'd have more time to spend with family and helping our community, plus we'd have a little less money so would buy less "stuff". The founder of Work Less Party, Conrad Schmidt will be talking about his book "Workers of the World: Relax" tonight at Vancouver Central Library 350 West Georgia at 7:30
Also, This Friday Nov 23 is "Buy Nothing Day" - the name says it all.
