Try out Change Everything

A group of us have already tackled the first hurdle, which is to get approval in principle by Translink to use this land.

The Cedar Cottage Community Garden is located at Hull Street and Victoria Drive (close to 19th Avenue) under the skytrain lines.  If you know where the big red "A" sign is, that's where we are.  The brick plaza was built long ago and we have begun the cleanup and enhancement process. Herbs, flowers and plants have been planted in the small garden boxes in the plaza and there is still plenty of work to be done. Poetry evenings are held once a month during the summer on our stage.

So if you want to be part of the garden from the ground up, now is the time to join us.

We meet almost every Sunday afternoon for a couple of hours. We have two co-ordinators and a core group of active volunteers.  We could use more help. There are all kinds of volunteer responsibilities and help needed.

We've also received funding from VCAN for plants, tools, wood, etc., and if you want to learn about us and the latest news, go to:   http://groups.google.com/group/cedar-cottage-community-gardens

Hope to see you there.  Happy gardening.  cylia

Last Sunday was an exciting

Written by Cylia

Last Sunday was an exciting time at the garden. After working on this since March 2008, we finally built our first two rows of raised garden beds and the Cedar Cottage Community Gardens was officially born. One of my dreams has been realized.

Today, we'll be meeting at 10 a.m. to construct the last row of garden beds and add soil. Delivery of compost won't happen till Monday since they don't deliver on the weekend. It's free from the City of Vancouver for all new gardens -- an initiative in support of the 2010 Community Gardens Project. I've already ordered my seeds in anticipation of planting my winter garden.

In total, there will be 28 plots, however, some of us are already thinking about how to create more.....there is oodles of Translink property available and if you want to check out our google site and take a peek at the latest pics, go to:  http://groups.google.com/group/cedar-cottage-community-gardens   For those that like to get their hands dirty, happy gardening, Cylia
