September 19, 2006 Job Hunting Update
Here is my ongoing saga of finding a full-time job.
I have finally updated my resume and posted it online. It took a whole day to update it because I had to change it from "chronological" to "experience" -based. In the end, I had a combined version of both styles because I haven't had a lot of city planning related experience. I would like to show that the skills that I gained from other jobs are transferrable to a planning job.
I think I have done a good job on it, but I will review it again (and again) tomorrow.
I have continually browsed the "career advice" section of the online forum for planners. There are lots of useful discussions, such as
- What are some of the possible interview questions
- How to dress for a planning interview (some say suit and a tie, while one says shirts and khakis)
- What is an "ordinary" day for a planner
I won't bore you with details, but it's a great resource that I am glad that I have found it.
Because I am planning to move to Calgary soon, for more opportunities there and for exposure to different planning ideas, I have to juggle several duties at once.
It's been an interesting September so far. I will need to speed up my job hunting progress.
