spreading the word about the dangers of highway expansion
If you're able to distribute flyers for a couple of hours in North Surrey on Sunday, 6 May, it will make a difference. Thanks! - Bonnie
Background: the four Surrey New Democrat seats are the biggest block to New Democrats formally opposing Gateway. Many residents in this area believe the myth that twinning Highway #1 will solve congestion. This is a PRIORITY EDUCATION AREA. All help is greatly appreciated.
Kevin Purton and Susan Lehmann (Fraser Heights Residents Against Gateway) invite us all to the North Surrey community of Fraser Heights for the 2nd “drop” of Gateway to Global Warming newspapers. Directly on Highway #1 and South Fraser Perimeter Road, Fraser Heights will be one of the most Gateway-impacted communities, but information has been slow in getting out. This is one of the communities that the Gateway literature acknowledges will suffer elevated respiratory disease and cancer. It is also home to a network of wetlands with vulnerable amphibian and wildfowl populations.
45 volunteers needed to saturate this 4500 household neighbourhood.

C74, the local Fraser Heights bus, leaves the Surrey Central SkyTrain station at 12:20 pm and 1:20 pm. The closest bus stop to the newspaper distribution point is at 160th St. on the overpass before it crosses over Highway #1. From there it is a 10 minute walk or five minute bike ride straight north across the highway.
The 501 Langley Centre or the 590 Langley South buses leave the Surrey Central SkyTrain station every half hour. The closest bus stop to the newspaper distribution point is at 104th Ave. and 160th St. before the bus accesses Highway #1. Again it is a 10 minute walk or a five minute bike ride across the highway.
All buses are bicycle rack equipped.

If you're taking your bike on Skytrain, get off at Surrey Central Station, go south on 135 St., east on 102nd Ave., south on 140th St., east on 100th Ave., and north on 160th Street. It's about a 25-minute ride to the mustering point.
