Let's bring out the heart (care & compassion) into the entire community, and not only to seniors, but, to everyone
Happy new year, everyone.
I've thought that being on a neighborhood house's board, its possible to bring out more care and compassion to anyone in the community.
During meetings, we discussed how can we make the neighborhood house more responsive. Doesn't it mean to care more for each other? To make a better board in order to make a better community. How can we do it though? Giving is simple and it maybe takes awareness and sensitivity and little time. Giving what is needed at the time.
In a Neighbourhood House setting:
Maybe an ear to listen is needed, or a card for a birthday that we heard about, or a visit to the hospital, hugs are always a good way to connect and if we ask questions we can find out what is needed. Taking time to ask questions, perhaps?
We care for our families, friends, animals garden's etc. How about caring about anyone that we meet?
If all is one we are all connected and one big family.

Hello Kate:
Thanks for your reply. I am on the board at a Neighbourhood House in greater Vancouver. Neighborhood houses are generally looking for people to join their boards.
How can you join me in honouring senior citizens and other people in the community? In many ways -- I write letters every week and do phone calls every day or every second day and care about people in my community. I give what is needed at the time if I hear of a birthday I sent a brithday card to a person I just met. We can all join at any time to have awareness in the NOW.
In another situation, there was a homeless person sleeping in front of a rectory on Main St, near 14th Avenue. He was is in need of a blanket, because it was cold. I supplied him a clean blanket.
There people in need every day and if they cross my path I will response in some way, even if it is a prayer for the person that is there here right now in the moment.
