bike share experiment, a great success!
well the bike share experiment has come to a close (click here to see how it all got started). we are delighted to report that bikes have been steadily returning back to Vancity Head Office here at 183 Terminal. so far we have counted 22 of the 45 that were 'set free' on the city streets nine weeks ago!!! considering the fluid nature of the program (the bikes were handed off from stranger to stranger with verbal instructions on how to participate) we are thrilled that this many have found their way back to us. if you happen to see someone riding around on a Vancity Bikeshare bike, please let them know to return the bike to us.
we have had so many positive reports from people who participated in the program. one of the things we heard quite a bit was that people were inspired to get into cycling; several people said they even bought bikes of their own as a result of this program! We also heard that the type of bike we selected for this experiment was not exactly the easiest bike for commuting, if we could go back in time we would probably select a different bike. all in all we are delighted with how things have turned out. this experiment got people outside getting exercise, talking to each other and trying new things. and now the bikes will be donated to Pedal who will be making sure they find their way to people who need them the most.
